Creating A Change ~ Making A Difference

A Revolution Began in Minneapolis, MN

(05 25 2020)

Sitting in my mini van on a dirt road, with Autumn Woods Farm in the rear view mirror, wondering what to do next. The farm was closed because the governor placed restrictions on small businesses from opening due to covid-19 pandemic.

My first thought was, "Let me check Facebook for any events."

I opened the Facebook app and noticed I had received a notification from an acquaintance. The march in Minneapolis would soon begin. I had never participated in anything like this in my life. Never have I participated in a march for justice for anything. I look over at the passenger seat where my camera sat, intently staring at me. Urging me to go be part of history. To capture what I can, share with others, and preserve it for future generations. I couldn't pass this moment by - it could create the change we need.

I drove into Minneapolis and found parking nearby Chicago Ave. I had no idea what to expect. I made my way through the wave of people to a man with a loudspeaker. No sooner was the man done speaking, the march had ensued. People began moving with a passion, shouting "No justice. No peace. Say his name. George Flloyd." It was surreal. I was trying to take it all in and capture it (while learning how to shoot while walking). When the march began toward the police station, I (along with many others) veered off in the opposite direction and left the march.

I could hear gunshots in the area as I walked in the rain back to my vehicle (using my phone for directions). Thankful for the opportunity to participate and capture such an historic event. Thankful I made the right decision for me to leave when I did.
